Hammer Down

I finished Hammer Down: Children of the Undying, Book 2 on my lunch break today (would have finished it sooner but I got distracted by the British TV series Primeval: Volume 1 (Series 1 and 2)). This is the second book in Moira Rogers' Children of the Undying series which takes an interesting look at demons.

The setting is a post apocalyptic future, though I don't think it ever comes out and says so I would judge the time frame to be 2100-2125. Demons invaded Earth and humans fled to live underground escaping to virtual reality as much as possible. The characters are a warrior class demon/human half breed and a human truck driver who makes her living transporting people and goods between settlements through demon infested land.

This story is about how the leader of a community suspicious of all outsiders and a lady with serious wanderlust form a couple and a better world for both their peoples.

I really enjoyed this book, though I admit to spending the first half wondering where Marci and Gabe (from the first book) were. They did eventually show up. In the end there are some very interesting ideas brought forth as the source of the demons is explained along with why the invasion happened in the first place. I hope there will be another story in this series and can't wait for it to be released!
